“Virat Kohli in New York, Possibly Skipping India’s T20 World Cup Warm-Up”
The team management and BCCI have often granted exceptions for Virat Kohli’s integration with the national team. Kohli, India’s premier batter, arrived in New York for the T20 World Cup, five days after his teammates. Whether he’ll play the warm-up game against Bangladesh remains uncertain, as he’s expected to rest after a long flight. His participation will hinge on his condition and willingness to face Bangladesh at the Nassau County Cricket Ground. Despite Kohli’s late arrival, his extensive IPL performance suggests he may not require much match practice. He will still have three quality net sessions before India’s first game against Ireland on June 5.
Kohli’s arrival was confirmed by a senior BCCI source, following his 16-hour journey to the ‘Big Apple’. The team had an optional training session on Friday morning, attended by players like Rinku Singh, Shivam Dube, and Mohammed Siraj under the guidance of the support staff.
Kohli’s history of being granted breaks, such as before the South Africa Test series and skipping the England Test series for the birth of his child, reflects the flexibility accorded to him by the management. Despite missing some training sessions, the team trusts Kohli’s professionalism and believes his routines won’t be disrupted.
