Mathias Boe, who coached Indian badminton stars Chirag Shetty and Satwik Sairaj Rankireddy, has announced his retirement from coaching after their recent exit from the Paris Olympics. Shetty and Rankireddy were defeated by Malaysia’s Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik in the men’s doubles quarterfinals with scores of 21-13, 14-21, 16-21. Boe, a silver medalist from the London Olympics, had been with the pair since before the Tokyo Olympics.

Despite the high expectations for the Indian duo, Boe revealed that he is stepping down from coaching due to the intense pressure and exhaustion associated with the role. In a heartfelt Instagram post, the 44-year-old Danish coach shared his disappointment but also expressed pride in his players’ dedication and resilience. He acknowledged their efforts and the physical challenges they faced during the tournament, emphasizing their commitment and hard work.

Boe, who is married to Bollywood actress Taapsee Pannu, indicated that he is leaving coaching with a sense of fulfillment, despite not achieving the desired outcome in Paris. He reflected on the emotional toll of pushing athletes to their limits and expressed understanding of their disappointment, while also commending their passion and perseverance.
