India started their campaign with a dominant win over Ireland at the same venue on Wednesday, and the USA remains undefeated so far, meaning Pakistan cannot afford another loss.
Currently, Ireland leads Group A with four points from two matches and a Net Run Rate (NRR) of +0.62. India is second with two points from one game and an impressive NRR of +3.06. Canada is third with two points from two matches after beating Ireland following their loss to the USA. Pakistan and Ireland are at the bottom with no points so far.
Pakistan’s Qualification Scenarios for T20 World Cup Super 8
Even if Pakistan wins all their remaining games, they could still miss out on Super 8 qualification. If Pakistan, India, and the USA all end the group stage with six points each, the qualification will come down to NRR.
If Pakistan loses to India and India then loses to the USA, the USA will reach six points before their final match against Ireland. Currently, Pakistan’s NRR is worse than both the USA and India’s, so they must not only win all their matches but also improve their NRR to surpass one of these teams.
If Pakistan loses to India, they would need the USA to lose both of their remaining matches to have any hope of advancing. Additionally, Canada has a good chance of reaching the Super 8 stage. With a current negative NRR, Canada must win all their games and hope other results favor them.
