Ruturaj Gaikwad might lose his captaincy of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) after IPL 2024
according to a warning from former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan. Despite Gaikwad’s strong performance with the bat, CSK’s season has been inconsistent. They have won 7 out of 13 matches but recently lost a crucial game against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), which knocked them out of the playoff contention.
Pathan compared Gaikwad’s situation to that of Ravindra Jadeja, who was removed from captaincy after a poor performance in 2022. He emphasized that CSK is known for winning crucial moments but currently faces challenges, including injuries and the absence of MS Dhoni as captain. Although Dhoni has occasionally set the field, he no longer leads the team. Pathan cautioned that Gaikwad could face a fate similar to Jadeja’s if issues persist.
Pathan also mentioned the possibility of Dhoni playing his last IPL game, though he was uncertain about it. Before the CSK vs RCB match, Pathan predicted that RCB, led by Faf Du Plessis, had a slight advantage due to their strong momentum, which was confirmed when RCB won the match by 27 runs.
