The West Indies all-rounder was reminded of a popular interview from the Bangladesh Premier League, where a presenter, struggling with English, asked Russell, “Final match you perform. What’s happening?” This question, which had initially confused Russell, brought a smile to his face again, with teammates Sherfane Rutherford and Sunil Narine joining in the fun.
In the IPL 2024 final, Kolkata Knight Riders secured an 8-wicket victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad, thanks to a half-century from Venkatesh Iyer and a disciplined performance from the pacers. KKR captain Shreyas Iyer praised his team’s comprehensive performance, saying, “This is what we demanded from the team and every individual. They stood up to the right occasion, and the feeling was hard to express. We played like invincibles throughout the season.”
He added, “We have been tremendous from game one, stepping up today. All we demanded was to back each other in any situation. SRH played phenomenal cricket throughout the season, and we were fortunate with the conditions. Thanks to SRH for their competitive spirit.”
Regarding Mitchell Starc, Shreyas said, “That’s when big players stand up. It was a high-pressure game, and he’s been so good off the field. He’s got that magic wand, and he’s always looking to take wickets. When I look at him, I know he can look at me. All the guys stepped up at the right time. It has been a flawless season.”
