Despite setting a modest target of 120 runs, India restricted Pakistan to 113/7 in their 20 overs. This achievement matched Sri Lanka’s feat in 2014 when they defended the same target against New Zealand. Additionally, India surpassed their record in T20Is by defending their previous lowest total of 139 runs against Zimbabwe in 2016. This win marked India’s seventh triumph over Pakistan in T20 World Cup history, maintaining their dominant record except for a loss in 2021. India’s victory over Pakistan in the ICC T20 World Cup was a historic achievement that showcased their resilience and strategic prowess under pressure. Despite facing a challenging pitch, India’s batsmen struggled initially with key players like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma falling early. Rishabh Pant emerged as the standout performer with a crucial knock of 42 runs, well-supported by Axar Patel and Suryakumar Yadav. However, the lower order faced difficulties, resulting in India posting a modest total of 119 runs in 19 overs.

Pakistan, in response, adopted a cautious approach in their chase. Mohammed Rizwan held one end with a patient 31 runs, but India’s bowlers, led by Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya, exerted consistent pressure by taking crucial wickets at pivotal moments. Bumrah’s stellar performance of 3/14 earned him the ‘Player of the Match’ accolade, while Pandya’s economical bowling of 2/24 played a crucial role in restricting Pakistan’s progress.

Despite Naseem Shah’s valiant effort to accelerate the chase, Arshdeep Singh’s disciplined bowling ensured India emerged victorious by six runs. This win not only secured India’s position at the top of Group A but also bolstered their confidence for the upcoming matches in the tournament. Overall, India’s ability to defend a low total in such a high-stakes encounter exemplified their depth in bowling and determination to succeed under challenging conditions.
