Uncertainty surrounds Rohit Sharma’s future with Mumbai Indians after he was relieved of his captaincy duties. Former India batter Aakash Chopra believes both Rohit Sharma and young wicketkeeper Ishan Kishan might not play for MI in the next IPL season. After a poor season under new captain Hardik, where MI finished last in the 10-team league, Chopra speculated on MI’s strategy for the IPL 2025 mega auction. He suggested Rohit might have played his final game for MI and hinted that Kishan could be released due to his high price tag, though MI might use the ‘Right to Match’ card.
“I think they will let Ishan Kishan go. They might use the ‘Right to Match’ card because 15.5 crores is just too much. I don’t think Ishan will be retained,” Chopra stated on his YouTube channel.
“I think Rohit Sharma has played his last match for Mumbai Indians, whether by his choice or the franchise’s decision,” he added.
“Either way, I see them parting ways. I don’t think you’ll see Rohit Sharma in a Mumbai Indians jersey again. That’s just my view; I could be wrong,” he further explained.
Rohit’s next role will be leading the Indian team in the T20 World Cup 2024, starting with a match against Ireland on June 5. Despite debates over Hardik’s inclusion, he was appointed vice-captain.
